# Managed Users API

> The server-to-server API a Managed app uses to register its users, mint tokens and portal links, and list the connections it pays for.

The Managed Users API is a separate surface from the data API, with its own base URL and its own authentication. A [Managed app](/guides/managed-apps) uses it to manage the people it has registered with Synci; the data those people connect is then read through the normal [v1 API](/api-reference) with a per-user Bearer token.

```text theme={"dark"}
Base URL:  https://api.synci.io/managed/v1
```

## Authentication

Every request uses **HTTP Basic** with your app's client ID as the username and its client secret as the password:

```bash theme={"dark"}
curl -u "YOUR_CLIENT_ID:YOUR_CLIENT_SECRET" \
  https://api.synci.io/managed/v1/users \
  -H "Accept: application/json"
```

| Response | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `401` `invalid_client` | Bad or missing credentials, or the app is not a Managed app. Deliberately indistinguishable, so this endpoint cannot be used to discover which client IDs exist. |
| `403` `client_suspended` | The app has been suspended by Synci. |

Rate limits are **300 requests per minute per client** and 600 per minute per source address. Errors carry `error` and `message` keys.

<Note>
  The step-by-step flow, from registering a user to reading their accounts, is in the [Managed apps guide](/guides/managed-apps). This section documents each endpoint's parameters and schemas.
